When our son was born, I couldn’t take my eyes off him. I never wanted to put him down. Or leave him in a room without me nearby. Taking a shower while he napped was somewhat terrifying to me – I was sure that would be the exact moment something would happen.
I’m sure my new mom anxiety was overblown a bit. But boy it would’ve helped to have had a video baby monitor to give me a little more peace of mind! For this next baby, we will be using a video monitor (especially since I’ll have a toddler to entertain during our newborn’s napping hours, so I can’t be just star-gazing at a baby 24/7!).

The baby video monitor was easy to set up and install in our son’s room. The video shows up black and white when lights are out, but in daytime /lit rooms, the video is color.
We keep the handheld unit near us on the coffee table and giggle while watching our 2.5 year old’s antics when he is supposed to be sleeping! Boy, we had no idea he was singing and inventing so many great adventures when we thought he was in la-la land. And just yesterday, I saw him putting his WHOLE LEG up out of the crib! Yikes – this video monitor is alerting us that he will need to be transitioned to a big boy bed soon!
We did have an issue introducing the camera to him – for several weeks he would sob if he saw the camera out in his room. Finally, we realized it was the little green “on” light that alerted him something was different. So hubby colored a piece of tape with black marker and taped over the light. Now our son doesn’t mind the camera at all.
Then we had the obstacle of the talk-back feature. I was very excited, hoping it would be a great option for talking to him when he woke up too early in the morning and getting him to go back to sleep without me getting out of bed. We painstakingly sat with him and showed him how we talked into the handheld and the voice came out the camera (he tried it and was entertained). However, when we use this feature while not in the room with him, he is terrified and starts screaming and sobbing. So… we’ll have to wait and see how this feature will work with the new baby.
The voice quality on the talk-back feature is clear, although speak quietly because it can be a lot louder than you think when talking in a normal voice. I notice a faint static from the handheld when our son is sleeping (ie, when no other noises are present) - a teeny hiss that is minimal, however, I cannot have ANY noise when I sleep (not even “white noise”), so this monitor does not work well for me during the night, unfortunately.
Overall, though, we’re enjoying using the video monitor from Summer Infant and can’t wait to try it out with our newborn! I’d love to get additional cameras to see both the baby and our son as they will be in different rooms for awhile. It will be a good investment for us to make!

We have a sound-only monitor and I think half the time if we could see him, we would know that he is fine. But he starts moaning and crying a little and we rush up to get him. But I’ve been in the room with him while he does that and he sits up, wiggles, looks around, moans then collapses back to sleep…which we would be able to tell if he was doing with a video monitor

When I watch grandbaby at my home-makes me nervous and would love to be able to hear him.
I would love this! With a 2 story apartment, it would be extremely helpful to keep an eye on my son while he’s sleeping and still be able to do things downstairs with my older kids!

We have a baby monitor without video and I find it annoying not to be able to see her when I’m in a different room. Sometimes I can hear her but I’m not sure if she’s awake or not. If I go to her room to check, I risk waking her up. A video monitor would be so much better!

We live in a 3 story town home with a 3 y.o. and 7 month old, I NEED a monitor as that’s the only way I can work or my husband and I can have alone time when they’re asleep. Otherwise you can’t even hear them! Our monitor broke!

I would like to win this for my new grandson; my son is currently serving with the Army and his wife and son are living with him (off-base). As my son is away from the home for weeks at a time, this would be an added security for his wife to be a “second pair of eyes” on their son while she is home alone.

My sister in law would love to have this. She is due in August and this would give her piece of mind to see her daughter and not just hear her.
My son is a really light/bad sleeper, so a video monitor is really necessary for us to see how he;s doing without having to physically go into the room and risk waking him up.

I never saw the need for a video monitor, I thought my plain old audio one worked fine. My neighbor has one though and boy it is nice to be able to just look at them without sneaking into the room!

Our current video monitor has no sound so it is basically worthless. We are about to move my daughter upstairs to a big girl room and our bedroom is downstairs so I’d love to get a new monitor to have eyes on her again.

I have an older, basic Summer Infant Video Monitor that we have used since our 2 1/2 year old was about 4 months old. It is the only way I was able to sleep with her sleeping in her own room. I always wondered if she felt like she was being watched since we often “spy” on her to see what she’s doing. A few months ago she stood up in the dark and held out her arms to be picked up without making a sound like she just knew we would see her!

I have three grandchildren; 8 months, 3 y.o. & 5 y.o., the youngest two require me to keep an eye on them from afar (napping & bedtime). This would help so I wouldn’t have to enter the room.

The one we had for our first was super staticky and annoying with our second. So I’m planning to get a new one for this one coming in August, and it would be awesome to win one!

I just took out our monitor (it’s 16 years old) and I’m noticing a lot of problems with it. I seem to be hearing one of our neighbor’s babies with it (I hear a baby crying but when I go upstairs my little one is sleeping peacefully). I also hear a lot of static on it. I really want a new monitor (especially one of these nice video monitors) but just can’t justify the expense for our last baby when we have a monitor that basically functions. What an awesome monitor! This morning I hooked up a fisher price monitor and it really sucks compared to this one!! I wish it at least had 2-way communication. Also our baby doesn’t wake up crying, she stirs and makes critter noises so I have to listen really closely to the monitor to check when she’s waking.
I would love to win this for my son and daughter-in-law. They are expecting (twins) and this would be a necessity for them as my son is a student and works full time as does my daughter-in-law. They could get school work done and still keep an eye on the babies.

I’d love to win this! I have 3 children, age 2 1/2 down to 6 weeks, I could use a good monitor. I havr multiple monitors in the home, but the interference between them, as well as others in the area, sometimes make it impossible to even hear the babies thru them.
