A Bloggy Advent Calendar Event
I’ve been planning this event for over a month. Well, I didn’t intend for it to become an “event” but… when I think about doing something for 24 days… I guess that is event-worthy.
This year I created an activity Advent Calendar for my son. This is the first year he’ll start really learning about Christmas and I want to make it memorable by doing something special each day as a family.
A search on Pinterest for Advent Calendar ideas pulled up so many beautiful creations. Many were a bit outside my crafty-range! Then I found this library-pocket version of an Advent Calendar that you make with scrapbooking materials! That sounded right up my alley! So over the power outage week, I put this together.
Then I got to thinking… of course I’m going to blog about this, so… why not have a Bloggy Advent Calendar too? So, for all my readers, each day, I’m going to share with you my Advent Calendar activity idea! I’ve arranged them specifically to fit our family calendar and local events, so here’s a downloadable version of my Advent Calendar 2011 in case you want to rearrange to fit your schedule. But, if you’d rather be surprised, just stay tuned Dec 1-25 as we count down to Christmas Day!
Just like Advent Calendars with the treats inside… every DAY will have a new “treat” for you to win. We have a wall hanging that counts down to Christmas. It is a scene with Santa and the Mrs. in their house. The little marker to move from day to day is a small mouse. I have had this since I was a child and now we use it yearly. Last year we also used a series of wall clings that were of the manger scene. I did a bunch of posts on it last year as well.

When William was about Asher’s age I did something similar…not as crafty, but similar. I made a paper chain. On the inside of each link I put an activity or craft for us to do. Now with homeschooling and such we have simplified our “countdown to Christmas.” We still make the paper chain, but without the activities for each day. Enjoy every minute with Asher. It goes by so fast.
