I have definitely had to experiment with my laundry routines with cloth diapering to get rid of that constant rash my son suffered. I’m happy to say he continues to be rash-free.
Over our camping trip and the past few weeks, we’ve been using Nellie’s Natural Laundry Soda. I am liking their ingredients are clearly disclosed : Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Chloride, Citric Acid, and Coconut oil based surfactants.

.jpg)
(Oh, and don’t you love the Nellie’s character on the packaging!? You should visit their website and check out the interactive home page!)
One thing I have to stress is that your diaper laundry should NOT smell like anything when it’s clean. I made that mistake. Thinking that if it smelled a little like detergent, that was okay because isn’t detergent “clean”? No, a detergent smell means buildup. Buildup can mean trapped ammonia in your diapers, and will probably cause rashes and perhaps leaks. Nellie’s is hypoallergenic, so there is no scent and it’s residue-free!
Nellie’s Natural Laundry Soda was easy to dissolve when I handwashed my diapers, so I know it’s dissolving quickly in the washer too. It dissolves in both hot or cold water.
The other great part is that for even a large load of laundry, you only need about 1 Tablespoon per wash! Meaning a load of laundry will cost only about $.20 per scoop!
We’ve been very happy using Nellie’s on our cloth diapers the past month! Have you tried Nellie’s yet?

I did all of the above requirements. I do laundry every two to three days. I like to buy clear and natural soap, but I get discouraged because I don’t feel as though the products clean my toddler’s dirty clothes very well. I have seen many home made soaps that I am thinking of giving a try. I would LOVE to find some detergent that was really good. Thank you.

Sadly, i have to do laundry every morning before I go to work. I do one load.
I always use the free and clear detergents – cannot stand most of the scents that detergents have. I’ve also given up on fabric softener – don’t see the need or difference. And I always use less detergent than the package says – and everything still comes out nice and clean.

I am partial to powder detergent recently although we were a liquid family from the beginning. I have this feeling that powders are better for the clothes and the machine…just my thought. Also, we tend to let clothes and diapers pile up before we was big loads. We need a detergent that can handle that and dissolve well in our water. Thanks.

My laundry routine’s pretty simple: when I have enough for a load of laundy, I do it. I use natural soaps (I’m trying out several to find a “favorite”), vinegar in the rinse water (no commercial fabric softner) and hang on the line to dry.
We use mostly RG for everything but have used other CD friendly detergent. I almost bought Charlies the other day to try it. I’m in need of more so I need to win so I don’t have to any!

My laundry routine….put it off until the piles are toppling over… LOL Laundry is an everyday thing around here if we are to have any hope of walking through our home without laundry falling on us. We are a family of 6, with 2 and a half cloth diaper wearers. I am currently on a hunt for a great diaper detergent…and a regular laundry detergent now that I realize all the stuff that is in regular detergent. In the last 4 months we have tried Charlies (son allergic), Tide free and clear (the enzymes worry me), All free and clear (build up), Arm and Hammer (yuck can only describe our results), Publix (multitude of suds), and Dropps (dingy dipes). We also use some Dawn and OxyClean from time to time. We have soft water and nothing seems to be rinsing clean without a multitude of rinses which really seems to cut into our ability to save money by cloth diapering. Today I stripped my washer AGAIN, and I will be trying Crunchy Clean.

I only use hot water on our diapers, everything else is cold water. And we line dry everything! I wish I had more substantial drying space in the laundry room for winter though so I could use the dryer less when it’s frozen out.

I’ve just recently switched back to charlies as it was what we started with and I didn’t seem to have a problem with stinkies until I started switching around!
We use Rockin’ Green for diapers and Method for our clothes. We switched to Method because it clearly says “4 pumps” on the bottle. When we used detergent that you poured, it would disappear quickly. It took me 5 years of marraige to figure out that hubby was just pouring and pouring and pouring detergent instead of putting the tiny concentrate amount into the machine. Now he is fully schooled in “4 pumps” LOL!

We’re big Charlie’s Soap fans. We use it on all our laundry except cloth diapers. I still like RnG for that. We get the Charlies in a bucket. If we could get RnG in bulk for the amount we get Charlies, I might switch over.
I have recently changed to triple rinsing my diapers after the wash cycle. Sounds like over kill but when I don’t I think I can still smell something on them.

We do a pre-soak in cold water, then a hot wash with a cold rinse. Lately we have allen’s natural, but I’m running out, so hoping to win. Over the summer, we’ve been lucky enough to hang the diapers outside on the line, which has been a big help in bleaching out any residual stains.
