Dad’s Log: Dadda’s got his GROOVE (Camel)Bak Giveaway *CLOSED*

27 Flares 27 Flares ×

It’s been a long time but MKDaddy has his Groove.  I’m not sure who was more excited me or my DW!  Oh yeah baby!!  Fresh,  crisp, clean, refreshing and life-sustaining water!  I can taste the non-flavor if you know what I mean.  You do know I am talking about the CamelBak Groove Stainless .6L and not some weird mid-life crisis… right?

First off, a little bit about water.  In some circles it is known as the “super solvent.”  This moniker is due to its ability to dissolve a variety of materials due to its polarity and ability to hydrogen bond.   Hey, I didn’t lose you with some science mumbo-jumbo… did I?  Anyways, water dissolves many things and will ”pick up” stuff from the air or containers after a while. Of course most tap drinking water is “treated” with materials… you know like “chlorine.”  Some areas of the country have “hard water” which is water with a high mineral content, usually salts of magnesium and calcium… the soap scum creators!!  Sometimes you can detect a little bit of sulfur too!  Ewww!

If, like me, you are a little snooty about drinking water (preferring bottled water quality), then this is where the Camelbak Groove portable filtration device comes in.  It has a little filter … activated charcoal, I believe, that reduces chlorine, taste and odor for about three months.

The Groove also has a nifty bite valve to prevent spilling. Cool fact: this is the SAME bite valve used by NASA astronauts in space. If that doesn’t make you cool…well, at least the water you’ll be drinking will! In fact, a study by Pepperdine University concluded that these bite-valves actually help you drink 24% MORE water! (My wife agreed – and she’s a hard case when it comes to trying to get her to drink enough water, but she can down a full CamelBak bottle in no time!).

And of course the bottle is re-useable…duh! And BPA-free… because it’s made of stainless steel. (The Groove also comes in BPA-free plastic).

I have to admit the Groove lives up to its billing.  It definitely reduces the chlorine taste and odor in our tap water.   I can taste and smell the chlorine in our tap water when I brush my teeth.  (Of course, do not swallow fluoride toothpaste!  Fluoride is bad for you… unless the government says its o.k. to have in your drinking water…  Think!)

I know someone out there is saying… “Why did I read this?”  or “They let this guy have kids?”  or more to the point, ”Why not get a large scale household filtering system?”  O.K., finally a good question.  Answer:  Are you always home?  If you are active and out and about quite a bit, the Groove gives you fresh, crisp water where ever you are! Like at that public water fountain. Or camping. Try hauling a reverse-osmosis system around with you… yeah… thought so!

CamelBak also has great children’s bottles. Our son loves his dinosaur stainless steel bottle. And we, of course, love the no-spill bite valve…especially after the baby-opened-the-sippy-cup-of-milk-in-his-car-seat incident!

BUY IT: Online at CamelBak’s website, or outdoor gear retailers like Cabela’s, REI, Eastern Mountain Sports, Dick’s Sporting Goods, etc. The Groove retails for $35, and the Kid’s Stainless Steel bottle retails for $20. For more details, follow along with CamelBak on Facebook !

WIN IT! One lucky reader will receive 1 CamelBak Groove Stainless Steel water bottle!

I’d use it for my tap water.. I need to drink more since i’m pregnant.

DanaJuly 25, 2011 - 9:27 pm

We drink tap water…I would love to have this for my son. He is doing a lot of camping with scouts.

ErickaJuly 25, 2011 - 8:24 pm

We drink the water from our fridge and it has a purifier built in.

Jaque R.July 25, 2011 - 7:55 pm

I buy bottled water as the tap water is noxious….I would love to use this to reduce my carbon footprint by going back to tap water filtered by this amazing bottle. :-) Thank you.

kathy peaseJuly 25, 2011 - 7:16 pm

i currently drink tap and bottled water and i would use this when i work in the garden and walk on the treadmill

BreanneJuly 25, 2011 - 6:20 pm

I currently use a filtration pitcher. I would give this to my husband to use at work. The water is really disgusting!

VivaJuly 25, 2011 - 6:01 pm

This looks like a great product. I know what I fill the bottles with but when my child needs to refill their bottle at school or on the go, this filtration system will take care of any unfiltered water. Thanks!

nicole parsonsJuly 25, 2011 - 3:08 pm

I currently use bottled water. This would be great for me to use on the go instead of bottles.

nparshy@gmail.com

Victoria RussellJuly 25, 2011 - 2:21 pm

love this giveaway! i first heard about this from my sister – she uses one during her walks to and from class at school on hot days – and she says its amazing! since its over 100 here – i’d love to try it, too!

Nick HilleshiemJuly 25, 2011 - 12:08 pm

Julie LJuly 25, 2011 - 11:24 am

Right now we are using a water filtration pitcher…we have well water which is not tasty at all :)
thanks

Kristen morrisJuly 25, 2011 - 10:56 am

I would love to have this at work, we don’t have a water cooler and either have to bring in filtered water from home or buy beverages fro a vending machine.

tina reynoldsJuly 25, 2011 - 10:02 am

I would use this on the go for errands, I usually take a bottle with me but if it goes empty for I get home i have a bad habit of just buying a plastic bottle of water eaglesforjack@gmail.com

tomatoJuly 25, 2011 - 8:57 am

This is so much better than my “freebie” plastic water bottle!

SarahJuly 25, 2011 - 4:43 am

I would use it when traveling.

MandalaJuly 25, 2011 - 12:26 am

This will really help me. . .I bring my own water bottle but when I ran out of water, I get it from the drinking fountain at our school (tap water) and I don’t like the taste much – - I end up buying drinks, Having a filter will help improve the taste of my water and will help me drink more water (and save money too!)
mandalarctic at gmail dot com

jeannine mJuly 24, 2011 - 11:46 pm

right now I am getting away from bottled water and I am in search of the perfect water bottle for me. I have tried thermos(didn’t like top or metal), bobble (not a fan of design) I am hoping camelpk will be the winner

Stefany TJuly 24, 2011 - 10:51 pm

I admit that I am a bit obsessed with water bottles. Being pregnant, I drink a ton of water and like to have a bottle that works well and keeps my water cold. This is a very cool one. Thanks for the chance!

april beverJuly 24, 2011 - 8:09 pm

We put tap water in our water bottles, I could really use this for my morning run

Daniel MJuly 24, 2011 - 7:55 pm

would use it when out biking!

NancyJuly 24, 2011 - 9:41 am

My husband needs a water bottle that will fit in the cup holder in the golf cart, and this would be great for that!

michelle rJuly 24, 2011 - 12:43 am

ive been wanting a water bottle with a filter and camelbak is an excellent company

Allison LesleyJuly 23, 2011 - 9:35 pm

We have an at home filter on our kitchen faucet. This bottle would be great for my husband because he works construction and drinks lots of water.

MarcJuly 23, 2011 - 12:32 pm

I would love to use this bottle for when I deploy in the coming months to Iraq. Considering the water last time I went was horrible. Maybe this will help. Then I can use it for field training when I get home

PatJuly 23, 2011 - 8:50 am

I use bottled water. If I had this I could use tap water and save tons of money. This would be great to take camping as well.

Zanna B.July 23, 2011 - 8:16 am

We use stainless waterbottles and tap water. I would love to try this one with the filtration!

MeghanJuly 23, 2011 - 12:14 am

I have a filter on the tap and a pitcher one since I LOVE really cold water. This seems ideal for little ones since I hate to think of that public water I’m forced to fill a sippy with sometimes…

Tiffany UJuly 22, 2011 - 11:15 pm

My dad has been wanting one of these because on really hot days hes stuck working outdoors for sometimes 12 hour days and he is never sure the quality of the water from the plant where he works out of.

Jill MyrickJuly 22, 2011 - 9:52 pm

I drink bottled water at home and when we are away.
But I would love to give this a try. It to me would be so much better than having to purchase bottles water. Especially when we are on the go with things such as hiking etc.

jweezie43[at]gmail[dot]com

KristieJuly 22, 2011 - 5:32 pm

Right now I drink bottled water. But I would use this bottle to take my water to work instead of purchasing bottled water.

jenniferJuly 22, 2011 - 3:47 pm

We would use this for everyday activities, or hiking, camping. Unfortunately our well water isn’t potable so we have to buy H20 from a water machine at the grocery store.

tubbytellyJuly 21, 2011 - 4:34 pm

I think it would be awesome to have a self-filtering water bottle! That is the coolest invention I have seen around lately…or at least seen online :)

AislingJuly 21, 2011 - 1:05 pm

We drink tap water – ours is “okay” but not great, so we usually don’t drink as much as we know we should. I know I’d drink more if it tasted better and this CamelBak would be great to take to yoga class.

Hannah AveryJuly 21, 2011 - 10:24 am

We buy most of our drinking water. This would be great to have while camping and traveling!

hannahavery85 at yahoo dot com

JoyJuly 21, 2011 - 9:13 am

I’ve never tried a water bottle with it’s own filter! I love that it’s stainless steel, that is all we use for water bottles.

RitchJuly 20, 2011 - 4:18 pm

I’m trying to lose weight and having a bottle with filtered water would be a great resource to help me out. Right now I just have straight tap water.

MissyJuly 20, 2011 - 1:42 pm

I would use it every day at work.

phxbneJuly 20, 2011 - 12:50 pm

we use a Brita jug – this bottle would be great to use at work

ashley wheelerJuly 20, 2011 - 8:44 am

We have a water filtration system at home but I would love one of these water bottles for when I go out on walk, on the mountain or to visit family that doesn’t have a filtration system.

Mrs. SmittyJuly 20, 2011 - 6:45 am

Soldiers use Camelbak backpacks and the bite valve as well.
I already use a Camelbak waterbottle, we bring 2 with us everywhere, it doesn’t take long for my daughter to drain hers and I refill mine a 3-4 times a day. In the car, while running errands, while running around the yard, at the park, the zoo, the mall… everywhere! I’d LOVE to try the Camelbak water filtration bottle!

ColleenJuly 19, 2011 - 10:35 pm

I would love to win this bottle to keep at hand at work as I am always trying to push fluids and they would stay nice and fresh in this bottle.

BeccaJuly 19, 2011 - 9:10 pm

We have a water filter at home, and my kids each have a stainless steel water bottle that we fill at home and take most places with us. Unfortunately I don’t have a water bottle for myself. I’d probably drink more water if I toted one around like the kids do.

Ladytink_534July 19, 2011 - 6:57 pm

I’d use this at home or on the go. We drink a lot of bottled water

Monica PelletierJuly 19, 2011 - 1:25 pm

We just started getting reverse osmosis water from the town, but you have to take containers to the fill-up station and that is a pain in the rear! Having a bottle with a filter would make it easier on us! We could just fill up from the tap and not have to have that chlorine taste.

PaulineJuly 19, 2011 - 12:00 pm

I would use this as my daily water bottle. We currently are using a home filter and this would a great addition to being eco friendly to our planet – (emscout9 at Hotmail dot com)

DelphinaJuly 19, 2011 - 3:49 am

We bring water with us, but sometimes we need to refill at not the best places ( zoo, park etc.). This would put me more at ease about that. Especially when traveling. I know the quality o our city’s water, but not everywhere we drive through on a regular basis.

ShannonJuly 19, 2011 - 12:19 am

This would be great for after workouts. We generally use the fridge filtered water but the tap is pretty clean also.

snaugle81@gmail.com

amandaJuly 18, 2011 - 5:58 pm

i’d love this for bike riding!

Aimee E.July 18, 2011 - 4:09 pm

I currently use a plastic water bottle, and I’d like to try stainless steel.

Sara TJuly 18, 2011 - 1:20 pm

I currently keep a water bottle with me in the car whenever I am out and about, but I often just end up filling it up at the water fountain wherever I am. It would be great to have this bottle to do the filtering process for me. Fantastic!

ZeneJuly 17, 2011 - 8:53 pm

I would use this at work. The water is nasty! I usually take my own giant nalgenes but they get heavy lugging around. Spottedjagiwar at yahoo dot com

veronicaJuly 17, 2011 - 7:39 pm

I use a nalgene bottle, but i don’t like that you can’t really get all the water out at the lip…seem like it hangs around and doesn’t get fully clean. would like to try something new.

amoretteJuly 17, 2011 - 6:24 pm

we switched from plastic a long time ago for our son, and more recently for our drinking water too- we use the safe sippy brand cups for my toddler, which are stainless steel, but the tops are difficult to clean because there are lots of small grooves. is the camelbak better? we use kleen kanteen for ourselves- they make a great insulated bottle for coffee and tea too!

AshleyJuly 17, 2011 - 1:21 pm

I buy a lot of bottled water so this would save me a ton of $! Thanks!

Terri S.July 17, 2011 - 10:26 am

We drink tap water and this CamelBak bottle would help me to feel better about knowing that the water I give to my 2 granddaughters to drink is clean and safe. :)

Cindy MerrillJuly 17, 2011 - 4:28 am

My hubby wants to take his grandsons ( ages 3 and 6) out camping with his son:
Never know what kind of water supply will be at the site, this prize would give me some peace of mind and a little less worry over my guys’ week long trip.

Maia GJuly 17, 2011 - 12:33 am

My husband really wants a portable filtration bottle for work because the water there tastes nasty, and he spends lots of time there!

KendraJuly 16, 2011 - 8:38 pm

we would use this up hiking and being outdoors fishing, I use filter at home also, as I have kidney stones and that helps

Terri S CrumJuly 16, 2011 - 2:19 pm

We buy bottled water. I would love to have one of these to cut down on our green footprints we are leaving with all the plastic we use! Plus, out water tastes terrible…very strong chlorine smell & taste!
tlcrum06 at att dot net

SarahJuly 16, 2011 - 1:50 pm

Currently, I just use tap water in Nalgene bottles (which are BPA free), but I’d love to get this because of the filtration. If I don’t win it though, I might put in on my Christmas list. And I tweeted about the giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.

Katie VJuly 16, 2011 - 12:47 pm

I would love to have the CamelBak water bottle because I drink from plastic water bottles at the moment and it would be more eco friendly if I had a reusable bottle. I would use it for when I workout, hike, do yoga, and many other daily activities.

SonyaJuly 15, 2011 - 5:44 pm

My 15 year old daughter is snooty about her water too! I have no idea why she is so picky about her water. This would replace her reusable bottle with a straw, that she doesn’t care much for, she carries to school daily. For me, and the rest of my crew, I will drink it from the tap with ice only after it has chilled for a few minutes. I know you are thinking “eeeww” , and now that I think about the wastewater treatment plant and the chemicals added…OK I have to stop thinking about it!

Vivian S.July 15, 2011 - 5:36 pm

My 17 month old has the Camelbak kids version and he loves it. I would love to win the adult version for myself because he always likes drinking out of my cups/bottles anyways. We buy so much bottled water so this will reduce that expense.

Logan JonesJuly 15, 2011 - 5:08 pm

There are numerous hiking locations that I travel that has drinkable spring water so this would be great for that to eliminate any funky taste the water might have. Also, where I work the water tastes horrible so I either buy bottled water or fill my bottle with brita water from home before I go to work so getting one of the groove bottles would help me save money and allow me to drink more water!

JenniferJuly 15, 2011 - 4:27 pm

I would love to use one of these for walking, camping, or just everyday!! I’ve been trying to drink more water and have my kids drink more water! Having a cool bottle might help!

Lisa Danielle GriceJuly 15, 2011 - 4:26 pm

I use bottle water right now and this bottle would be more eco friendly! I would love one!

Penny SnyderJuly 15, 2011 - 4:20 pm

Would be great to take hiking & camping! grammypenny@frontier.com

Julie KJuly 15, 2011 - 4:04 pm

Yes, A. REALLY uses the bite valve. Seriously he figured it out a Loooong time ago – it was hysterical b/c I could NOT believe he would do that. Now he grabs MY CamelBak’s (I have 4 now, yes, I’m an addict!), and guzzles my water ALL THE TIME! LOL).

SarahJuly 15, 2011 - 1:03 pm

I currently drink only bottled water–tons of it! This would really save on money and be less wasteful!

Robin HJuly 15, 2011 - 12:22 pm

Right now we use halogen bottles and plastic sippies. These look great for hikes, going to the playground, or just every day use.

debbie mJuly 15, 2011 - 12:11 pm

My hubby is a teacher, too, and we take water stainless steel water bottles to work every day. He now uses one of my pink ones…he needs a more many Camelbak one!!!

Katie BuchholzJuly 15, 2011 - 8:12 am

I have always wanted to try a filter bottle but financial problems have not allowed me to do that. I hope to maybe win this bottle so i can still get the water without spending money to get one! :)

Dan DeFoorJuly 14, 2011 - 11:22 pm

Water, water everywhere – now I have drops to drink!

hjJuly 14, 2011 - 10:23 pm

We use a brita filter at home and I use a lot of reusable bottles, but worry about BPA now.

Diane R.July 14, 2011 - 9:40 pm

I currently use filtered water at home, but it would be great to have bottles that will do that while on the go. I am always packing water for my grandkids and this would be helpful.

Knocked Up and NursingJuly 14, 2011 - 6:02 pm

We use a filter at hoome and take reusable water bottles on the go with us. I prefer my family to drink water from our home.
knockedupandnursing at gmail dot com

Wendy LopezJuly 14, 2011 - 5:56 pm

I really use this bottle when I go running.

Erin CollinsJuly 14, 2011 - 5:27 pm

I do not own one of these, but my dad would love it as he goes hiking all the time!

Joy NewlanJuly 14, 2011 - 3:49 pm

our family already uses reusable water bottles, but one WITH A FILTER would be fantastic! our town has ridiculous hard water and you cant trust most of the older part of town to have water that doesnt come out of the faucet brown and tasting like BLOOD…i am not joking it is horrible!

SammiJuly 14, 2011 - 2:07 pm

I’d use this for tap water – the city water is kinda gross so I try to avoid it otherwise

Denise B.July 14, 2011 - 1:26 pm

I don’t trust public water and this would be great for filtering tap water.

karen morinJuly 14, 2011 - 12:49 pm

We just went to a family gathering and my sister-in-law had one of those bottles. My daughter and I never seen one before and was so excited to hear about them. She lives in North Dakota. We live in Washington state. I guess we learn about new things after the whole states. My daughter received a bottle in mail after we returned home, from her sweetest Auntie. Now, I am working on getting myself one. It keeps ice in it for 2 days. Hard to believe but true. I want one sooo bad..

Jessica AJuly 14, 2011 - 11:31 am

I would love this because I am very picky about water for myself and my boys! We use a Britta pitcher in the fridge now but I would love this for traveling! :)

Susan LaddJuly 14, 2011 - 11:28 am

These are nice to have and hope to win :)

stephanie macdonaldJuly 14, 2011 - 10:39 am

I use bottled water and I need to really break the habit! I am all about recycling yet I see I do have some not so green habits, I need to find a good bottle I can start using instead and the fact it is filtered will also help save me some money too!

Alison T.July 14, 2011 - 9:10 am

I drink unfiltered tap water. I have a well that supplies water for my home. I would love to have this bottle to take water on the go. Thanks for the chance.

supaflychikenpi2 AT gmail DOT com

JLJMommyJuly 14, 2011 - 9:08 am

At home we drink water from our fridge filter. On the go I like to fill up water bottles for the family and guess who doesn’t have one?? Hubby. He’d enjoy being like the rest of the fam and I wouldn’t have to share my camelbak with him… germs. Not sure about the bite valve, but I could always trade bottles with him, right? ;-)

Amanda AlvaradoJuly 14, 2011 - 8:41 am

We buy water from the Watermill or some similiar water mill place. Our water comes from the Rio Grande and is super hard so there is no way we drink it from the faucet! This would be great to take to work since I am usually done with my aluminum bottle of water half-way through the day and there are no water coolers to be found! I have to go to dh’s work to refill it during my lunch! LOL

Stephanie KlemmJuly 14, 2011 - 7:30 am

I would love to have one of these! Right now we have not-so-great bottles. And we just bought a jogging stroller…I realized I need water along. But I have one of those bigger thermos’ so it doesn’t quite work with the stroller cup :)

Vanessa DelanoJuly 14, 2011 - 7:18 am

I have one for myself, my hunny takes mine all the time and i can never find it for work i need another one, our filtration system is no good at our house!

PurpleLarkspurJuly 13, 2011 - 10:23 pm

This bottle looks perfect for hiking!

Crunchy Beach MamaJuly 13, 2011 - 10:00 pm

I think my hubby would like your science talk :)

Does A. really use the bite-valve? P. can’t figure it out yet.

Kelly K.July 13, 2011 - 9:56 pm

We don’t currently have a filtration system of any kind so, this would be wonderful to win.

Robyn GallowayJuly 13, 2011 - 9:40 pm

We have a flitration pitcher in the fridge. I would get a bottle for my son, to take when we are running errands, especially on hot days!

ashley nJuly 13, 2011 - 8:17 pm

I use a filter for our tap water, just a brita filter.
anw1107@aol.com

susan varneyJuly 13, 2011 - 5:06 pm

to drink with a work mverno@roadrunner.com

T Rex MomJuly 13, 2011 - 4:28 pm

Honestly, I prefer my own bottle instead of buying bottled water. So much waste generated with the empty bottles. So, I usually fill our water bottles with filtered water. Something like this would be really handy – if if just to a restaurant. They rarely use filtered water. I’ll have to check next time I hit REI. We usually just go to look but maybe I’ll have something in my budget to buy next time.

nicoleJuly 13, 2011 - 3:46 pm

This would be great for our family hiking trips.

AmandaJuly 13, 2011 - 3:18 pm

I live in Utah and use water bottles ALL THE TIME. Our tap water is fantastic so I hardly ever buy bottled water. I have a few favorite re-fillable bottles. I have been dying to try the camelbak. My sister has one and loves it. They are really easy to get the water out of which when you are hiking or biking it is a big deal. We spend a lot of time outdoors and having a great water bottle is esssential.

AmandaJuly 13, 2011 - 2:46 pm

This would be awesome! I would use this for when I’m camping, but also everyday! Instead of using the expensive filtered bottle in the office, I could just fill up from the tap. It would be an amazing way to drink clean water and travel without worrying about thwat I’m drinking.

Kristie BettsJuly 13, 2011 - 1:28 pm

I have never tried, to tell you the truth I didn’t even know that there was a bottle out there that did that, sounds pretty cool though I’m gonna look more into it. I would love to try it I can’t drink water cause I don’t like the taste I drink kool-aid to get my water. Maybe if this could get the water to taste better I’ll drink alot more water. Thanks for the chance to win.

KristenJuly 13, 2011 - 1:09 pm

I would use this for biking and hiking!

Octavia JonesJuly 13, 2011 - 1:02 pm

Right now we drink unfiltered tap water. We are a family of 5 and own 4 thermos brand stainless steel water bottles, 2 with straws, two bigger ones with pop tops. They are nice, but we do need a 5th AND one with a filter sounds pretty awesome. I definitely dislike chlorine smell and taste! Thanks for the chance to win :)
